Open Letter to the Department of Education of Guangdong Province Regarding the Rights of People with HIV/AIDs to Teach in China

July 25, 2013

This open letter, circulated by AIBO AIDS Relief Law Network, thanks the Guangdong government for abolishing provisions in the Standards for Physical Examinations of Applicants for Teacher Credentials in Guangdong Province [广东省教师资格申请人员体格检查标准], which prevented people living with HIV/AIDs from working as teachers. It also calls on the Guangdong government to urge the State Council to revoke or amend the Standards on Physical Examinations Relating to the Employment of Civil Servants (Trial Implementation) [公务员录用体检通用标准(试行)], which still disqualifies applicants living with some diseases, including HIV/AIDS.
